Christmas in San Antonio

After Christmas in Dallas, we came back to San Antonio to see my father, brother, aunts, and grandparents.
This is my cousin Elizabeth. She begged us to come over early on Christmas so we could open presents, but when we got there, she was still asleep. Like any teenager, she was mortified that she wasn't wearing makeup.

We always say we're going to draw names, cut back on spending, buy fewer presents. But we never do.

We have a tradition that we all open one gift on Christmas Eve. But it's usually a gag gift, some kind of puzzle. This year's gift was a wooden puzzle that you had to take apart and put back together. John was the only one who managed to do it.

We open gifts one at a time in my family, youngest to oldest. So opening gifts takes a long time. I think we started about 11 am and finished about 3:30 pm. After that, there was champagne, finding batteries for gifts, and watching Up.

Christmas in Dallas

After Angela and Rob's wedding, we hung out with my family in Dallas. My mom wanted to go to see the ice show at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, so we did. It features 2 million pounds of ice in the shape of Grinch characters.

Ice is really fucking cold, yall. They gave us these smurf-like parkas to wear, because it was 9 degrees in there.

I have a lot more photos, but they didn't come out well. Here's the entrance, in case the blast of super cold air didn't tip you off that this was ice.

We didn't have a lot of time to spend in Dallas, but we always have time for some dim sum.

For those who don't know, dim sum is kind of Asian brunch. They have carts of small plates and you pick which ones you want and they mark it on a sheet of paper. I have no idea what these dishes are called, but they are delicious.

And then, we met up with my high school friends one last time before we left at the Flying Saucer.

Merry Christmas!

John and I have never done a Christmas card photo before, so we put on our finest turtlenecks, borrowed that adorable puppy from a neighbor, and screenprinted "World's Best Dad" on a sweatshirt for John. You know, like Jesus did.

I'm just kidding! Jesus didn't do that. Also, that's not us in the photo, it's from Awkward Family Photos. I photoshopped our heads onto it. We didn't borrow that dog, and John most certainly doesn't have that sweatshirt.

But we do want to wish you and yours a Merry Christmas! I hope you see your loved ones, get some great presents, and avoid ugly holiday sweaters.

Ho ho ho!
