Christmas in Dallas

After Angela and Rob's wedding, we hung out with my family in Dallas. My mom wanted to go to see the ice show at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, so we did. It features 2 million pounds of ice in the shape of Grinch characters.

Ice is really fucking cold, yall. They gave us these smurf-like parkas to wear, because it was 9 degrees in there.

I have a lot more photos, but they didn't come out well. Here's the entrance, in case the blast of super cold air didn't tip you off that this was ice.

We didn't have a lot of time to spend in Dallas, but we always have time for some dim sum.

For those who don't know, dim sum is kind of Asian brunch. They have carts of small plates and you pick which ones you want and they mark it on a sheet of paper. I have no idea what these dishes are called, but they are delicious.

And then, we met up with my high school friends one last time before we left at the Flying Saucer.

Angela and Rob got married!

Angela and Rob got married! I've known Angela since the 5th grade. I don't know why, but she has been my friend ever since, despite the fact that I am clearly insane. We've been to dances, sleepovers, concerts, everything in our formative years together. One time, we drove all the way to Addison to the Car Spa. That was an exciting day.

Angela and Rob got married at the old courthouse in Dallas. John and I came up for the wedding and to see my mom for Christmas.

It's not a Rob event without some dragons.

We got there about 12 minutes late and almost missed the whole ceremony! What kind of wedding starts on time, I ask you? Not one I've ever been to, til now. We didn't miss the important parts, like the booze.

And the cake! The cake was delicious.

This is Angela and her dad. They started out dancing slow, and then there was a record scratch. They tossed their shoes off and started boogying on down to a fast rock number. It was hilarious!

Here is Marie giving her awesome, impromptu toast. You'd never known she didn't rehearse it.

Going to weddings for high school friends means I get to see all my old high school friends! Katie Richardson, Marie Charlson, Sarah Gardner, and Julie Ta were there. Some of those girls are married now, but I'm not gonna bother with their married names, because they're always gonna have those name in my heart.

Angela and Rob made the spectacular choice to get a photo booth. I've never been to a wedding with one, and I highly recommend it. Did you know you can fit 6 people in that booth?

Congratulations Angela and Rob!

Merry Christmas!

John and I have never done a Christmas card photo before, so we put on our finest turtlenecks, borrowed that adorable puppy from a neighbor, and screenprinted "World's Best Dad" on a sweatshirt for John. You know, like Jesus did.

I'm just kidding! Jesus didn't do that. Also, that's not us in the photo, it's from Awkward Family Photos. I photoshopped our heads onto it. We didn't borrow that dog, and John most certainly doesn't have that sweatshirt.

But we do want to wish you and yours a Merry Christmas! I hope you see your loved ones, get some great presents, and avoid ugly holiday sweaters.

Ho ho ho!

Dog whisperer

Buster is a pretty good dog. But when he meets other dogs, he goes crazy. In a good way. Good crazy. He loves to play with other dogs, bite their ears, lick their ears, pounce on them, chase them. The other dog here is Zoidberg, Jarret and Casey's dog. He's older than Buster, and calmer. But that doesn't stop Buster from chasing him all over the house.

The good thing about dog sitting other dogs is that Buster is always tired at the end of the day and ready to go to bed.

The bad thing is that he wakes up at 3am, ready to play some more.

John and I are going to get another dog in January, so I guess this is good preparation for that. At least we know Buster will be friendly to a puppy, even if he does play with it to death.

NaBloPoMo

Or, as John calls it, NaPoBloMe.

I made it! I had 30 posts in November, each unique and delicate as snowflakes. Profane, cheese-loving snowflakes.

I learned that this writing shit is hard, yo. I am not so good with forcing posts out. (That's what she said!) (Sorry.) But, when pressed, I can definitely come up with something to say every day. This should surprise no one, including my father, who once told me I didn't shut up my entire 7th grade year.

Sure, I might have back-dated a couple posts to meet the deadline. There were some throwaway posts in there. I had to pre-write some posts before I went out of town. But I'm gonna call this venture a success. You got 30 posts in November, I got to blather on, we all win.
